Begin at the Beginning

As I was mulling over how I should begin my newest blogging endeavour, I kept returning to the quote from the King in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland that reads: "Begin at the beginning, and go on till you come to the end: then stop." It's not a revelation, really, but it seemed revolutionary to me. Perhaps this is because I'm quite literally at the very beginning of one of the few journeys in life that has no end. On August 24th 2012 at 9:04 in the morning my baby girl entered the world. I became a mother. A mama.

The first few weeks of the job were, as advertised, exhausting and emotional. Raw, even. Lots of crying, lots of fear and anxiety and a healthy dose of "oh my God, I can't DO this!" Thankfully those weeks are fleeting, and I have an incredible support system. Before I knew it baby girl and I (and my husband, too!) got into a bit of a groove. Two months in, I know we still have far to go. I still have loads to learn, lots of living and lots of experiencing to do. That's why I started this blog. To chronicle the journey to come. Since our family and friends are fairly spread out, I want them all to feel like they are able to be here with us daily (if they so choose, of course) I also want a platform for discussion with other mamas. Been-there-done-that sorta mamas. So feel free to offer advice or your thoughts, if you're so inclined.

I suppose I should introduce myself, in the event that you've stumbled upon this blog without knowing me personally. My name is Alanna. I'm married to Stephen.

I'm a lover of all things delicious (I may fancy myself a chef...sigh, in another life), I love crafting, interior design, yoga and I'm a totally unabashed Francophile...so much so that I became a French teacher. I have a gigantic Boston Terrier named Loki. Here he is in his Instagram debut:

Now that we have the formalities out of the way, I can begin regaling you with tales of our everyday life here in this fine city. Stay tuned!
